‘The Office: Christmas Wishes’ Review

Before tonight The Office has produced five excellent Christmas episodes. The annual tradition has been great to watch every year. Season 8 is when that changes.

Christmas Wishes was not a bad episode but it certainly wasn’t a good one either. As usual, the plot revolved around the office Christmas party. In the past these episodes have been known for having big leaps in relationships and watching Meredith get really, really drunk.

Tonight we got a lot of Andy and Erin. Awhile back we learned that Andy had been dating someone. Finally she was revealed to us and she is incredibly boring. She had no funny quirks or even reactions to the events around her. There was no visible spark between her and Andy. I can’t even remember her name. This led to Erin getting extremely drunk causing the newly divorced Robert to drive her home. Andy followed them to make sure they didn’t kiss, which they didn’t, making this entire episode about learning that they still have feelings for each other. Does anyone actually care about these two? I certainly have lost interest. I have moved on to Darryl and his new girlfriend. His gesture at the end of the episode was adorable and I am very excited to see their relationship develop further.

Otherwise, there were a few things to laugh at in this episode. Jim and Dwight were amusing as always. Meredith of course did get extremely drunk, and that will always be hilarious. But I can’t help but feel sad that Michael Scott took the days of great Office Christmas specials with him to Colorado. I hate Colorado. (5/10)
