‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The High School Reunion’ Review
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episodes usually follow a particular formula. The first half of an episode isn’t too funny but builds everything up for what usually is a fantastic second half. Tonight’s episode was a first half as a “to be continued” title card hit the screen at the end of the half hour, so sadly this was not a very good episode.
As build up it worked pretty well. Dee wanted to be part of the cool group and found herself among them making homophobic jokes because that’s what they like. Charlie was avoiding a guy he sent a bunch of hornets at who now has a lot of scarring. Mac was avoiding people because of his old nickname, Ronald McDonald. Dennis sat in a corner waiting for people to approach him. And naturally, Frank snuck in to be with his friends.
Overall, this episode was slow. These various plot points all had funny moments but I still feel like they were building to something better. Perhaps next week we are going to get the best episode of the show yet, but so far I have to admit my own disappointment. But the set up is good, so next week I expect to get the ridiculous humor that only Sunny can deliver. By the way, next week is the season finale already so shortly after next week’s review look for my review of the entire season (Hint: it’s getting a great score). (7/10)
