‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Slaves of the Republic’ Review
Cliffhangers suck, but that was one heck of an episode. The slave arc continued this week as Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Rex infiltrated the home planet of the slave owners, Ahsoka acting as a slave up for auction.
First, I am happy to see after the arc on Umbara that Rex continues to be just as much of a hero as the Jedi do. The plans naturally went awry as Obi-Wan tried to rescue one of the slaves but ended up getting himself into more trouble.
This led to a showdown in an Attack of the Clones style arena. I loved the Return of the Jedi reference as R2-D2 shot lightsabers out of his dome down to Anakin. The fight that ensued was incredible. Watching Rex battle the guards was a nice touch, however, it was Anakin wielding a lightsaber and a whip. It was incredibly animated.
The heroes did not come out victorious though. The conclusion of the episode saw Anakin being forced to make a choice of whether his friends will go free. That choice will wait until next time.
Slaves of the Republic was a great episode of the show and elevated this arc to a higher level of relevance for the characters involved. Sadly I am not sure when the next episode is airing. I am pretty sure we won’t see the conclusion to this saga until after the New Year. (9/10)
