‘Modern Family: Go Bullfrogs!’ Review

Very few of the characters crossed over this week, and that was a good thing. Modern Family showed us what everyone did on a Friday night. Phil and Haley visited Phil’s old college. Claire went out with Cam and Mitch since Alex and Luke were at sleepovers. Jay and Gloria watched a Spanish soap opera. Each story had their moments and ended up creating another great episode.

Jay and Gloria watching the soap opera was pretty funny as we saw Jay slowly get progressively more involved in the plot. The best part was when Gloria caught him on the phone with the housekeeper. A lot of other great moments from this plot came with Manny’s mysterious package.

Meanwhile, Phil’s college days are something I would love to see but since I doubt this show will ever do a “flashback” episode I think this is the best we’ll ever get. Nothing was disappointing about his antics as he showed Haley around his old school. The ending here was a bit too cliche but the characters made it work.

The funniest story this week had Claire finally having a night to herself. She goes out with Cam and Mitch who eventually find themselves in a largely gay cocktail environment. Claire is having a great time and chooses to stick around while the other two leave. The ending here was pretty brilliant so I won’t reveal anything.

This week’s episode was fairly by the numbers but it still had a lot of great moments and a nice ending to tie everything together. I can honestly say that I would enjoy a Friday night with any of these characters. (8.5/10)
