‘Louie: Come On, God’ Review

This week FX decided to air two new episodes of Louie back to back! Probably the best night of television all summer. The first episode had Louie on a FOX News program debating with a Catholic woman about the ethics of masturbation. While watching this episode I had no idea how I was going to write this review. So many things were funny for reasons I have little desire to describe to you fine folks who might not watch comedy half-hours about masturbation. But I’ll do my best because moments of this episode were absolutely hysterical.

One the debate is over on the news program, Louie apologizes to the woman for insulting her. She tells him to go to a meeting just to try it. However, first we get a look at Louie’s…”alone time”. It was pretty hysterical to see how Louie “thinks” during his alone time and how stray thoughts can ruin it.

Feeling pretty bad about himself he attends the anti-masturbation meeting. The woman ends up inviting Louie to get a drink, however she sounds a bit too eager. They flirt and talk about sex. Louie tells her about his first time. It’s legitimately one of the funniest moments of the show and I will not ruin it here (partially because I’m refusing to describe it).

The woman then invites Louie up to hang out. Everything points to them having sex, something Louie believes just as much as the audience does. But no, she sticks to her word and wants to wait for marriage. In fact she tells him about what she expects for her first time, including how amazing she thinks it will be, in explicate detail. Louie then goes off to have some “alone time” in her bathroom.

This episode delivered some of the funniest things we’ve seen from the show, however I must admit that there are some minor pacing problems here that the show hasn’t had before. There are a few stretches where something funny doesn’t happen for awhile. But he laughs in this episode are big. Yet another classic. (9/10)
